REFLECTION: my pharisee and tax collector story

the parable of the pharisee and tax collector tells us that they both went to the temple to pray. the pharisee's prayer went like this, "O God, thank you that i am not like the rest of humanity - greedy, dishonest - even like this tax collector. i fast twice a week and i pay tithes on my whole income." the tax xollector, on the other hand, could not even raise his eyes to the heavens and beat his breast and prayed, "O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.." (Luke 18:4-14)

i strongly call the pharisee a hypocrite but in more ways than i can imagine, i am like the pharisee. i always thought that when i committed myself to do good things - i was bound to be pursued by all temptations. temptations will come until they break my resolve.

boy, i was wrong. pride becomes the enemy.

at times, whenever i hear people live beyond their means, i always catch myself thingking, "these people are so materialistic..."

at times, whenever i find out that people buy luxury items that they don't actually need, i go in my head, "do these people tithe? they are drowning in their money.."

and whenever people don't make the choices that i would make if i were them, i'd often say, "you never listen to me, that is why you are like that..."

and then i'd feel that firm grip on my shoulder, with the words, "devi, my daughter, you are doing it again."

i am blinded with self-righteousness. i was becoming too proud of what i have become that i have forgotten to understand other people's struggle to the path of goodness. i was too focused on doing good - i have forgotten my mission to bring people to goodness by being good to them.

and i'd feel ashamed of myself. and that is when i'd feel so ashamed of myself but also feel the warmth of God's forgiveness for my selfsihness.

with the parable, i realized that i chose the life to serve God so that i can share Christ glory and goodness with others.

"whenever I reveal another's fault, I, at the same time, reveal my own..." (St. Ignatius of Loyola)

The Heart Beat: Chronicles of a Human Nature Ambassador (February 2011)

THE ♥ BEAT: Chronicles of a Human Nature Area AmbassadorFebruary 2011

Hello Everyone!
I may be a month late to wish you all a happy new year, but I do hope you all had a beautiful start with 2011. I sincerely apologize for my unannounced hiatus for the month of January. It was a mix of December hang-over, work schedule, writer’s block and excitement overdose. And now, I am back, with a lot of exciting updates for all of you.

Human Nature – Davao welcomed 2011 with a Catalogue Turnover with cocktails held at one of our branch operator’s residence last January 22, 2011. The turnover’s highlight is the introduction of our new line from Love Minerals – the 100% Natural Passion Fruit Hydrating Lipstick in 4 creatively named shades: Earth Angel (Browns), Coral Kiss (Peaches and Corals – my favorite!), Pink Skies (Pinks/Mauves) and Sweet Nectar (Neutrals – my second pick!). All the natural and good from passion fruit seed oil, sunflower oil, cocoa butter, beeswax and rice bran oil to soften, smoothen, and color our lips. The turnover also featured the new shade in the Mineral Pressed Powder Foundation: Orient Pearl for light skin tone and Pink Quartz (with shimmer) for our Mineral Blush.
We spent some time sharing stories and testimonials from dealers. It is always gratifying to hear how Human Nature has made a good impact in lives of people. It makes me feel proud to be an Ambassador for all the hard-working dealers in Davao City. What made me more delighted is a story shared by a mom dealer whose eight year old daughter tried to sell her teacher a Citronella Bug Spray! It is heartwarming to hear young kids already involved in our effort of creating a better Philippines.
On a lighter note, I am excited to be part of the January – February 2011 Catalogue (see Page 26). I would like to take this opportunity to thank the talented photographer Igy Castrillo for all the beautiful photos and Ms. Sherlie Pee Matildo of JSP Salon for the superb make-up. Special thanks also to Ms. Karina for assisting me during the shoot. Thank you Gandang Kalikasan, Inc. and Green Kreations, Inc. (Davao Branch) for the wonderful opportunity to be part in this nation building initiative.
The rest of the afternoon was spent in chit-chat and interaction with everyone. Some were busily trying out the new stuff from Love Minerals, which I am guilty too, hehe. Here are some of the photos during the turnover.
I would like to invite all dealers to participate in our “Hearts in Love: A Human Nature-Davao Valentine Promo”. Win any of the 3 exciting prizes for you and your loved one on Valentine’s Day: a bouquet of flowers, a heart shaped cake and a dinner for two (2) at C-Tres Restaurant on February 14. To join, purchase any Human Nature products starting February 01, 2011 until February 12, 2011 (5PM) amounting to a net-worth of Php300 and you are entitled to one (1) raffle entry. Winners will be drawn on February 12, 2011, 6:30 in the evening, during the Basic Orientation for Dealers at Blu-Gre Café, LandCo Bajada, Davao City. So make that purchase and win a treat for Valentine’s Day!
I am also pleased to announce that starting this month, we will be implementing the Basic Orientation to Dealers every second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Saturday of the month. I highly encourage all new signed-up dealers, interested dealers and individuals to attend. It would be the best venue to bring your prospect down lines. Kindly confirm your attendance at the Branch Office with Ms. Karina. Slots every Saturday are limited to 20.
I look forward to an exciting 2011 with all of you. Human Nature Davao has lined up exciting activities for all of us and it is my wish to see you all in there. Human Nature-Davao Branch will be celebrating its 2nd birthday early this year and I hope we can celebrate together. You can always call the branch office for updates.
Let us all be one in our efforts for a better Philippines and a safe and healthy Earth.

Wishing everyone a love filled month,
Devi Migue
